The Cade Museum Foundation announced it will sponsor an annual competition—beginning in 2010—to recognize and promote Florida innovators. The award will consist of a $50,000 cash prize, plus one year of in-kind support provided by the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce and admission to the Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center incubator program. The competition is open to Florida-based innovators. Project summaries should demonstrate that the ideas are innovative, creative, interdisciplinary and commercializable."The long-term goal of the prize is to promote the culture of innovation and to tap the tremendous job-creating potential of the brilliant ideas springing forth from this region every year," said Richard Miles, Executive Director of the Foundation. The competition is open to Florida-based individuals or teams. Potential competitors have until March 31 to submit a 500-word summary of their innovation for the initial round of screening. Vetted entrants will be invited to a workshop in Gainesville in April. The session will provide advice and tips on completing the final submissions, which are due May 15. A panel of local judges will select finalists, and an additional panel of judges from outside the region will pick the overall winner. The prize will be awarded in Gainesville in mid-June.
