Jack Hughes of the Gainesville Sports Commission was recently elected board chairman of the National Association of Sports Commissions – the leading amateur sports association in the United States – at its Sports Event Symposium in Omaha. For the past 11 years, Hughes has been the executive director of the Gainesville Sports Commission (GSC), the not for profit sports commission responsible for creating a positive economic impact in Gainesville and Alachua County, Florida. The GSC hosts or assists others with hosting more than 30 events annually in Alachua County and Gainesville, FL. In addition to his new post with the National Association of Sports Commissions, Hughes serves as president of the Gainesville Downtown Owners and Tenants, Inc.; as a director with the Gainesville Recreation and Parks and Cultural Affairs Board; and as past chair and presently alternate board member for the Alachua County Recreation Advisory Board.
